Mario Donà inherited the ancient wisdom of mixing silica, alkali and calcium to produce vitreous varnishes and fresh gold like Venus born from sea foam. These varnishes of varied beauty recall the flickering of the shore, a memory from his father Ugo. His father built the company in 1926 with the collaboration of the workers of master glassmaker Lorenzo Radi, taking over the equipment and learning the primary techniques.
Twenty-four hours are needed to give birth to a varnish, a slow, refined and loving gestation. The incandescent magma, under the expertise of skilled hands, begins to take shape with the help of primary materials. Finally, various colours are mixed, copper, cobalt, nickel, pure gold and more, almost as if to imitate the iridescent coat of the Phoenix. It is a scrupulous and refined secret handed down from father Ugo to Mario and now, to his son Marco.
The technological and scientific research carried out with a meticulous method has led to the production of high quality glass in the Donà laboratory, so-called fixed glasses, whose most important feature is that of optimally resisting any decay. The total dedication and praiseworthy pride of the entire family have allowed these results to be of the highest quality. Varnishes made up of the most beautiful colours and nuances come from our artisan workshop. Here, every "Magister Musivarius" finds around 2,500 colours in different shades, which are always available. You can produce thousands and thousands of new colours and create new ones each day. In fact, it is enough to change a component, even slightly, to obtain a new colour, light and chromatic emotion.
This is the skill of the Donà family - this is their pride: to treat the eyes. Via their luster, they have conquered important market goals and have become known for their seriousness and competence by great and small artists alike. The wisdom and fantasy of this lagoon tradition has merged with the rustic concreteness of the mainland, with the goal of reproduce ancient products.
